例句-1: How about coming out with us Wednesday night? We"re all going to take Bill Glover out to dinner. Then later we"ll drop into a few night spots. It"s Bill"s last chance to kick up his heels, you know--he"s getting married the next morning.
例句-2: My mother and dad are over sixty, but they still like to go out once in a while to have dinner and do a little dancing and kick up their heels. Of course, they go home a lot earlier than they used to.

这个俗语是:to kick off。

3: Last night Michael Smith kicked off his campaign for the U.S. Senate with a speech here promising lower taxes and a bigger budget for schools and more help to the farmers.
4: Now that my exams are all finished, I"m going to kick off the summer vacation by going down to Ocean City for a week to get some sun, some surf and a chance to look at the girls.

M: His car broke down? (sarcastically) Gee... that"s too bad! I was really looking forward to Professor Johnson"s class!
M: (sighs) Come on, Li Hua! Don"t you know what sarcasm is? Of course I don"t like that class!
M: Well, "Gee..." is an interjection that shows surprise, wonder, or uncertainty. Sometimes when people say "Gee..." (in a long, drawn out fashion) they are just pretending that they are surprised.

M: I would say, "Gee..., I don"t know... Winter here has been cold every year for the last ten thousand years, but maybe this year will be different."
M: Now, Li Hua, why don"t you give me an example using "Gee" without sarcasm to show that you are surprised.

M: (Sarcastically, in English) "Gee, I don"t know. Sometimes I just like to sit in an empty classroom and do nothing..."
  M: Hey, wait!
  ******
M: Did you hear, the football team won"t make the playoffs this year. Oh well, that"s too bad.

Owell?
M: I said, "Oh well". Oh, o-h, well, w-e-l-l. "Oh well" is use to show mild regret. We also use it to tease people or pretend that you are upset.
(sound of vending machine).
M: It"s broken? Oh well, I guess you have to give me a bag. We don"t want to waste food, right?
M: You"re not going to give me any chips? (teasing) Oh well, I guess I won"t be able to give you a ride home.

M: (teasing) Oh well. I guess I won"t be able to help you learn English then. Hm, too bad!
M: Um, calm down Li Hua. I was just joking, you know.
L: (in English, sarcastic) Gee, really? (Chinese)
M: Oh well, we"ve been kidding too much. Let"s go home.

at the drop of a hat
  to talk through one"s hat
今天我们首先给大家介绍下面这个俗语:at the drop of a hat。At the drop of a hat的意思是:一有信号可以马上行动。

1: Tom Atkins is usually a good-hearted, friendly guy. But he has one problem--a hot temper. Say something he doesn"t agree with, and he"ll start a loud argument at the drop of a hat.
At the drop of a hat
例句-2: I have a job that involves a lot of travel on short notice. I always keep one bag packed so I"m ready to go at the drop of a hat when I get a call from the boss asking me to catch the next plane to Chicago.

  ******
  今天我们要讲的第二个俗语是:to talk through one"s hat。 下面我们就to talk through one"s hat来举一个例子:

例句-3: Anybody who says we can balance the budget without raising taxes is just talking through his hat.
4: Hey, don"t listen to that guy. He"s talking through his hat when he tells people that two-headed men from Mars have landed a spaceship near Washington and the government is keeping it secret.
